Announced as Women in Art Prize 2025 Judge

Art Vox spoke to Arngunnur “Addi” Aegisdottir the sales director at Mall Galleries and a passionate advocate for women in the arts. We spoke about her role as a judge in the 2025 Women in Art Prize.
Q: What drew you to support the Women in Art Prize, and how has your involvement impacted you?
Addi: Being a part of the Women in Art Prize community is incredibly rewarding. I love their sense of togetherness. It’s not just the act of winning a prize that excites me; it's the mentorship and access artists gain to influential figures in the art world. In 2024, I witnessed how these connections significantly benefited the participants. It’s a beautiful thing to see this community growing and expanding.
Q: What do you see as the primary benefits of participating in the Women in Art Prize?
Addi: The prize itself is a fantastic achievement, but the real value comes from being part of a supportive network. In the challenging London market, having access to people who genuinely want to help is invaluable. They’re there to hold your hand a little, provide exposure, and give advice. It’s a mission to shift the art world towards greater inclusivity and opportunity.
Q: How would you encourage someone who is uncertain about submitting their work?
Addi: I would tell them to pause and consider the opportunity they might miss. Do you want to have that lingering feeling of “I should have just gone for it”? It’s about being brave and taking that leap. Your authenticity and creative voice are what will resonate. Just be yourself, and it will come across in your work. The Women in Art Prize is continually growing, and I encourage everyone to submit.
Q: What makes the Women in Art Prize such an important platform?
Addi: It’s such a vital mission that goes beyond the competition itself. It’s about shifting dynamics within the art scene and providing young and emerging artists with the tools and mentorship they need. This platform is vital in today's art world, especially for those looking to make their mark.
As Addi explains, the Women in Art Prize is more than just an award; it is a gateway to a thriving artistic community. Consider participating this year, submissions open March 8th.
